SYNOPSIS

Pharmacognosy is an important discipline in the Pharmacy curriculum and deals with the study of crude drugs that includes plants, animals and marine sources. In last few decades, there is increasing acceptance and awareness of herbal drugs all over the world. The department is actively involved in detailed study of natural origin drugs. In Pharmacognosy department experiments are carried out on basic concept of morphology, microscopy and physicochemical characteristics of herbal drugs. Department of Pharmacognosy is fully dedicated to provide excellence in education and research through natural products chemistry by exploring the local natural resources as remedies for management of endemic diseases. The major objective of the Department of Pharmacognosy is to transmit a new mode and approach for optimum utilization of plants and herbs as curing diseases and ailments alongside developing novel tactics and techniques to preserve natural flora as well as the key information related to it. Department of pharmacognosy maintains the a very well-planned medicinal garden. The medicinal plants procured from various herbal gardens and wild are being maintained in the college campus. Students learn about basic information regarding their sources, family, chemicals constituents, and uses. There is a collection of more than 100 plants of medicinal importance.
